Been playing CoD since CoD1, and MW2 was the last one I bought. I'm done with the franchise only because of the bullshit they've been pulling on their customers. Was getting constant 3:1 and 4:1 K/D in most matches I played, and I'm done. I wish the publishers pulled their heads out their arses, though I have no faith that they will at this point.

No offense, but what’s your KDR got to do with anything? Being a longtime customer of the franchise and dropping it is enough.

I don't know. I've got a ginormous monster cock and I've stopped playing COD as well.

[-] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

I'm glad to see I'm not alone

[-] stewsters@lemmy.world 27 points 11 months ago

Idk, but it's such a COD player thing to do.

He's probably camping in the back getting kills but not helping his team play the objective. As is tradition.

[-] MycelialMass@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

I'm confused, is there another way to play? /s

[-] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 6 points 11 months ago

It's an indicator of time spent on the game, and dedication. When I started, like most people I'd be happy to get 1:1, to consistently get 3:1 or 4:1 alongside SBMM gives a good indication to both dedication and time spent on it.

If you want to take it as an expression of ego go ahead, though that clearly was not my intention.

[-] RogueBanana@lemmy.zip 10 points 11 months ago

If that was the only intent, normal people would just say their hours logged in but alright

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago

If they had their hours spread across years and multiple consoles I can see why he went for KD. Fuck ive got no clue how many hours ive got in Fallout NV over the years just that the bulk of it is on PC and is sitting at 1186 hrs.

[-] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago

You're spot on man. If I counted hours it would be an estimate at best, and within the thousands.

[-] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago

3:1 or 4:1 alongside SBMM

How can you get that high of a KDR if SBMM is in place? If you're truly playing with people of a similar skill level, surely your KDR would trend towards 1:1

[-] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago

If I'm honest, a lot of it eventually comes down to familiarising the map. It takes practice to keep that KDR consistent enough, however after some time you realise that unless someone is pro, as in they actually play professionally, the game itself has a noticeable cap in skill once you've got reaction times down.

What I mean is there is only so many places to go, and the areas that give players an advantage in relation to spawn points is limited. I don't camp, and mainly played HardCore, so it's more a case of: shoot, go to the next area I think the enemy is, shoot, next area, repeat.
Another tip is to look on the mini-map. The enemy team is likely to spawn on the opposite side of the map, or close enough, to your team almost every single time. So when I die I try to keep aware of the areas that give the enemy more of an advantage in getting to me, whilst making my way towards them or sneaking around etc.

For aim, you can use Aim Labs on Steam however I've been playing online FPS since Quake 3 Arena launched so I've had many years to practise.

[-] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago

Sure, but you said that CoD uses skill-based matchmaking, meaning you're playing against people of similar skill. If that's the case, aren't those other people doing all this?

In other words, shouldn't a 3:1 or 4:1 KDR make the SBMM system place you against higher-skilled opponents, bringing that average KDR closer to 1:1?

[-] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago

Theoretically that's how it should work, but it gets to a point where it just doesn't get that much more challenging. Like there's some sort of wall, I guess? The best way I can describe it is with an older game: Quake 3 Arena, if you remember that.
Like, in Q3A once you've absolutely nailed rocket jumps, nade jumps, plasma wall rides, and no zoom headshots across maps with the railgun, there wasn't a whole lot left to figure out for most players. There were pro's popping up, though for most people in most servers the wall was hit that a lot of players noticed as well at the time (if they didn't have 8 hours per day dedicated to it like Fatal1ty and the likes). There was a huge benefit to that though, through optimism the mods were very popularly used in quite a lot of servers. I used to really enjoy the ExcessivePlus mod, and a lot of players were on it (most people used it for trick jumps, and the constant health regen made it harder to kill others so it was a playground to practise your skill but rather fun too).

It's a shame the CoD team isn't into the modding scene. Maybe too much money to be had with yearly releases instead...

What game are you switching to?

[-] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago

I've been playing CS2 with a few buddies I grew up with. Most of them haven't really been into FPS games much, however for some reason they were willing to give CS2 a shot (which I'm rather happy with).

We're thinking of switching up games around Christmas, as we have a tradition of someone gifting others something we could all play that started a few years ago. In recent times I've been focusing more on gaming to be social, rather than an escape (it took me years to get used to reminding myself to blink, when playing FPS games, and I got that sting when I did blink - I know a lot of gamers know what I'm talking about). Since my departure from sinking so many hours into CoD, I've placed even more focus on just having fun with friends I know and can talk to and my mental health has been better as a result.

The XBox Game Pass (PC) helps a lot. There's a few titles I've gotten into on there since broadening the genres I focus on, most recently Shadow of the Tomb Raider though I also play Forza Horizon 5 (also played through FH:4). 10 years ago I would have never imagined myself to enjoy car games, though it's been great. Oh, I also play Diablo 4 (with the last one I played being Diablo 2 for less than an hour when I was in school), really cool art and the story is dark yet gripping.

[-] Mintyy@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

I have also been playing through forza and similarly surprised by how enjoyable it's been.

I'd like to play an easy basic shooter like cod but I'm a solo player so the "strategic" shooters aren't for me. Similarly, I just don't enjoy the battle Royale style games.

[-] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Same, I was never really a fan of the BR style games either. I gave Warzone a shot maybe three times, and it wasn't for me. With CoD I only played Multiplayer.

I'm trying to unlock the fastest car in Forza right now.

Last one I bought was black ops 2 but wasn't motivated enough to actually play it so I stopped buying them

[-] Bongles@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

Last one I bought was WWII, I was only still buying the ones with the zombie mode in them and for that one the people I played with only played for a bit when I was working. So I played it maybe once.

[-] dlok@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago

Same actually as I didn't buy modern warfare 3. I guess my friends grew up by that point as nobody was playing.

[-] theangryseal@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

MW2 was the last one I truly loved. I enjoyed Black Ops, but it all got too far out there for me after that.

More than the game though, I loved playing with my childhood friends. We hadn’t played games together since back when you had to be in the same room with everyone. One friend talked us all into getting PS3s and for a short time the stars and planets aligned so the we could all be together again.

Hearing my old buddy constantly say, “awwww come on man. I fucking shot that guy. No way he’s not dead!.” was music to my ears haha. Reminded me of when we were kids and it was, “aww come on man, this controller is ficken shit. It’s not registering my ficken combos maaaan! Fuckin’ Scorpion!”

He was a German dude with no accent but he still cursed in German with an American accent (unless he was speaking German). He moved to the US when he was 13.

[-] dlok@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

I totally want to do a zombies reunion with my friends we used world and war and black ops to death. They're mostly married with kids now and dont really do gaming. We have to vote on the next day we meet up months in advance to get a decent turnout back in the day there was a period where we went out drinking every weekend!
