I read a character theory that this is Eddie self sabotaging.
As much as he loves ROH and Japanese Wrestling, he doesn't feel like he should be champion. So he's stacked the odds against himself
Man, I love the self-sabotage angle (if that's what they're going for). That would be a great character arc for Eddie.
