the quantity here presented as an indicator. so people can have a number to talk about because the actual thing 'kinds of stories in the zeitgeist' is really fucking hard to quantify and get scary about even when a scary thing us happening, which it is.

The article itself uses quantitative data extensively to establish its argument. I simply asked how representation compares with population demographics, which is a perfectly legitimate question. Suggesting that makes me comparable to executives rejecting trans stories as "too alienating" is a spectacular leap in logic by someone bathing in their unpleasant emotional state.
