I don’t understand the appeal of these shows.

It's a funny sitcom with a strong main romance that was produced during that sweet spot where a show like this could do what were basically syndication episodes while still having long term story progression. It wasn't full of Netflix filler either.

fans of these sitcoms seem to want to just watch them over and over and watch nothing else.

It's usually something people with anxiety do. It's like a comfort food to them.
