The salaries are... wow

$2,000 a month

💛 Sponsor a part-time (20-25%) Rust maintainer.

$5,000 a month

🧡 Sponsor a part-time (50-60%) Rust maintainer.

$10,000 a month

🩷 Sponsor a full-time Rust maintainer.

10k a month for a software developer in the Netherlands? I'd like that salary too. Don't even earn half that!

I thought I could donate 10€ a month but that's peanuts. They probably don't even bend over for that kind of money lying on the street.

If you work as an independent freelancer (what I assume this would classify as) you have to pay into social security and taxes and stuff instead of your employer paying part (at least here in Belgium).

So for example, if you make 3000€ per month here, you employer is probably paying 4500€ per month for you or more. Freelancers have to do that themselves and also pay into healthcare differently. So if you are earning 10k a month freelance, you might be taking home 5-6k/month (still absurdly high for here)

Not sure exactly how the tax system is over the border.

I wonder if those numbers are high, because nobody actually works full time, and part time requires you to switch contexts and only bill for the time you actively work (unlike what ordinary full-time employment looks like) and they just extrapolated from that.
