I'm trying to add a program that uses Python to the AUR. The app has no build script, and the main program uses files from other places in the repo directory. Should I just copy the repo files verbatim to the install directory and create a desktop file that runs the Python file?

If it helps, I'm trying to port the Mynah XMPP client.

I have a Python script without any build scripts on AUR too. If you want have a look, it simply copies (with install command) to /usr/bin. In my case its a commandline application, so there is no need for a desktop file. But for a GUI tool I would add a desktop file too.

I’m trying to port the Mynah XMPP client.

I don't think creating an installer script can be called a "port", unless you are making changes to adapt to a specific environment. I would clarify this in the post description, as this is not really a port, but just creating an installer. Otherwise one might get confused.

Note, in case you want to use the repository https://codeberg.org/0x7700e6/Mynah directly, they specifically state in the README that the repository is no longer updated and may be removed in the future:

This repository will no longer be updated in any capacity and may be removed at any time.

They link to the new repo in the same paragraph

Which does not invalidate my point. That's a new different repo. I said this specific repository will be removed in future.

The repo has just been moved to a different host. I dont see why op wouldnt use the new repo.
