Because the rich can't stand it if their wealth doesn't grow. Their piece of the pie can grow because the entire pie is growing or by taking a bigger piece. These days the pie doesn't grow like they want so they're taking more of everybody else. That means you have to work more for less.

The pie grows when you're more productive. Are you more productive when you work 60 hours per week, as opposed to say 35 hours per week? I highly doubt it, at least on average across industries.

We know you're more productive with less hours. That's been tested and studied. But the rich also can't stand you having fun and being in control of your own life.

It doesn't mean anything to be more or less productive doing more or less hours.

They see it this way: if you are 100% effective for 30 hours and then 20% effective for the other 10 hours, that's still overall more than if you would just do the 30 hours.

There was a joke post (I hope) about some CEO giving people a 4 day work week and productivity went up. They then cancelled the 4 day work week because "imagine what they could do with 5 days", using the experiment as a baseline for producitivity.
