I've always wanted to... For me the problems are 1) I'm behind a CGNAT, 2) my ISP explicitly disallows hosting in their terms, and 3) I can't afford a VPS.
1 Most ISP use this, one of the main beginning steps for self hosting is requesting a static IP (actually you may not even need this, just having one automatically opts you out of CGNAT for my ISP) 2. Surely this is worded to mean “you can’t host a server farm from your domestic service (pay us for a different, more expensive service)” and not “no self hosting allowed”?
No they definitely mean it, about the self hosting. I live somewhere with two giant monopolies on internet service, Comcast and Verizon. AFAIK, you can't even request a static IP from them unless you pay wayyyy more money?
Man that fucking sucks, sorry to hear it. A static IP was an extra $5/month for my provider but we have a bunch of different providers here and this one is popular for being accommodating for stuff like that. According to their site you can just ring to request being removed from CGNAT. I should be grateful it’s competive. Even in my country I’ve heard about Comcast/Verizon malarkey.
Yeahh it's unfortunate... I think i could get away without them noticing if I just kept traffic low enough, but I can't afford even a cheap VPS to do all the reverse proxy stuff
