I'll admit to being a little gutted about Lara Crofts design direction, but thats because I'm horny not sexist. I haven't played any since 2 and the top-down co-op one though so I'm not really allowed to comment.
The latest one that rebooted the franchise with a British VA, is really really good. You should give it a go, it's cheap and on sale all the time.
The first game in the reboot series does suffer from a bit of ludonarrative dissonance

when Lara first kills somebody it's a traumatic experience for her, but after that cutscene she massacres dudes for the rest of the game without batting an eyelidbut it is a very good game. I really should get around to playing the others, they've sat unplayed in my library for years.
I think that first part was supposed to be a shock, and show it's not going to be like the older games.
