Why are we still caring what Reddit does?
Reddit is fantastic for certain niche communities. On the whole, it fucking sucks, but it does contain so much helpful info because it just brings people together over a specific topic.
There is literally nowhere else I can go for live game threads for sports as good as reddit.
I dunno, being in a reddit thread for a big game isn't really much of a discussion. It's just flowing text like Twitch chat. Exciting maybe, but I don't think it's all that valuable.
not that it's much of an improvement but there is Discord.
It's not an improvement at all, Discord is actively terrible for any community bigger than about two dozen people and I hate that it has taken the place of traditional forums.
There are so many of those. Literally just search the term sports forum, and there are millions of them that have extremely active threads for all games
Millions of them? Give me your top 200,000
Because realistically I can only scroll on Fedi for maybe 20-30 minutes in a day before I've seen everything and if I have more time to kill, Reddit is there. Although I don't comment there at all anymore, it's truly worthless for conversation.
You could always post content here yourself you know.
And the alternative to Lemmy is what? Viewing the same content of fifteen years reposted by a bot every once in a while, and having your discussion subverted by bad faith actors and bots?
I definitely don't feel like using Reddit much anymore. Most of my time is spent in a particular programming subreddit to answer such fruitful questions as 'what is a function' next to master thesis-worthy posts, which is entertaining I guess.
Reddit said a long time ago there were no plans to change availability of the HTML version of the website, and I suppose now there are plans driven by unscrupulous shareholder interests.
The lion's share of people are still on that platform, and those should be slowly nudged away from that burning garbage heap. It would be both tragic and hilarious at the same time if the mention of Lemmy caused the platform to ban you instantly.
Why not try Duolingo or something? Or a crossword? The NYT app lets you play some games for free.
Because when Reddit fucks up those users will look for alternatives, like Lemmy.
In this case it's important to highlight that Lemmy has many different front ends and apps available. Lemmy can look however you'd like it to look.
Because to forget it is to repeat it.
I like to keep track of enshittification in general.
Fuck reddit but r/gunpla is 100x better than c/gunpla
