Or something that goes a bit deeper onto each instance and explains them better? I have a mutual on mastodon that I recommended Lemmy to, and tried to link join-lemmy.org/instances, but it doesn't really do much to warn about hexbear/lemmygrad/.ml/etc. Those instances are defederated from a LOT of lemmy and i don't want my moot to sign up there and not even know that they're not really experiencing the Lemmy experience that I'm recommending.

I don't wanna start a war in the comments about instance dramas, I just wanna find a better resource to recommend Lemmy as a 'reddit alternative' -w-

How many fucking times have we seen someone "executed" only to show up alive later? It's tabloid shit.

Why no one of you tankies mention a true socialist that was elected by people (not put on the throne by soviets, or like bolsheviks just opressing and ignoring alternative parties like social-revolutionaries, that got the majority in учередительное собрание) like Salvodor Allende , who was killed during CIA-assisted coup.

That literally demonstrates why electing socialists doesn't work! They'll fucking kill you. Or they'll send in a hit squad to kidnap you and hold you hostage like Maduro. The way to establish socialism is to seize power and then make sure the socialists can't lose it ever again, not leave yourself vulnerable to US meddling.

First of all, you missed a nice opportunity to mention my weak points. Second, western media loves to satanize dprk, yet the gulags are not just yet another speculation from noname korean outlet that was reposted by the bigger western ones, it is a real violation of human rights as well as the executions of families being a thing. You can not call documented years of systematic public executions and gulags "tabloid shit".

[ Also comparing Maduro, a dictator that rigged elections (thus being dictator , because people were against his regime) , to a real socialist like Allende, that came to power in a real competition, and had a real name, without having to establishing state oligarchy under red flag and calling it a socialism, is ironical at best. No one is sad because Maduro is captured, no one cares about him, many people celebrated even. When Allende was killed, even those frustrated by the chaos of 1970s , respected the fact that he was a legitimate leader, Allende died because he did not want to flee, and died with rifle in his hands. But I do understand it is some sort of analogy. ]

Your takeaway , that the only way to build a socialism is through "seizing power and never lose it" a.k.a turning from socialist system into yet another state oligarchy is also hilarious, because this is literally what the so called "social bloc" , the fact that soviet union and china was no different from corpocracy , where the main goal is oppress any independent worker unions, silence the people, and own as much as possible in the hands of the one guy. This system is unsustainable and leads to anything but socialism. Socialism without democracy is not socialism by the very fundamental idea of socialism, the society supposed to own the means of production, not the state oligarchs , that cannot be replaced by democratic voting. Instead you get corpocracy wanting to expand (definitely not imperialism, but a good will), crushing everything beneath them, putting oligarchs, censoring everything and locking down their people.

If you need an alternative to US imperialism and tankie dictatorship, how about getting rid of any hegemony, thus weakening the most dangerous actor (US) , and then do political activism all together , to return to the strong social-democratic baseline, and then, Meidner's plan, independent workers unions, worker's self-management and trying different approaches to moving from free market to market socialism or similar.

I don't want to know your opinion if it is not about people ruling the state.

Okay, if you're just talking about the DPRK having prisons and executions, yeah, obviously they do. A lot of countries do, it's not unusual. I guess you want prison abolition and restorative justice, but the material conditions to do that don't exist yet. We are limited by our material conditions, all a poor country can do is put people in prison and put them to work and kill the worst offenders.

But it's a joke to smear the DPRK as being especially heinous when the US prison system exists. The DPRK could perhaps reform its prisons some, but it still needs them to maintain stability and sovereignty. The US could abolish its prisons, it just won't.

If you need an alternative to US imperialism and tankie dictatorship, how about getting rid of any hegemony

Do you think I disagree with this?

The """tankie dictatorship""" is something that exists because of hegemony. Actually existing socialist countries are responding to the empire's meddling, that's literally why they are the way they are. A country that does not repress counterrevolutionary forces is a country that will fall to color revolution, and we have seen this over and over and over. If Salvador Allende had immediately begun building a military apparatus to defend the revolution and criminalized counterrevolution, Chile might not have fallen to CIA meddling.

EDIT Venezuela failed here too, because they didn't build up a military. If they had spent the past nearly-30 years since Chavez's election building rockets and drones to shut down the Panama Canal, they could have defended the revolution. Instead, they focused on peaceful development, and we now see that was a mistake.

Those are the choices. Use violence and repression to survive, or peacefully open up and die.

Once the empire falls, these systems will need to change. Until it does, though, they're necessary to maintain sovereignty.
