outside of the issues regarding asbestos which is a very common impurity in talcum because they tend to be next to each other, making separation impossible, which has been known since before 1900. https://www.asbestos.com/products/talcum-powder/

Cosmetic-grade talc has shown asbestos levels ranging from 0% to 30% in testing since the 1960s. To top it off, the types of Asbestos being mixed into talcum are among the most dangerous ones. The IARC also classified pure talc as probably carcinogenic, placing it in Group 2A, its second-highest cancer risk level. I would advise you to seek alternatives.

The original comment was removed but are we saying that baby powder is bad for us in 2026 because it has up to 30% asbestos in it? Because I put medicated powder on my balls pretty regularly. The burn makes me feel alive.

lol yes, baby powder (which is talcum) is bad for you. There was a large lawsuit in the UK in 2025 with 3000 claimants against Johnson & Johnson regarding their Baby Powder, and sale of baby powder has been stopped in the UK in 2023.

There's no updating anything with talcum, sadly. It is practically inseperable from asbestos, and they appear side by side/intermingled, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talc#Association_with_asbestos

But the replacements using Corn Starch are fine (and in my experience it also works pretty good)!
