Much easier. Stremio with the Torrentio and/or MediaFusion plugins. RealDebrid is like $3/mo, don't even need a VPN. It works pretty much identically to one of the corpo streaming apps, and it has everything in one place!

Another option is Usenet with the *arr suite. Super easy program flow.

Only that you pay the same in HDD costs as for a billion streaming services, these days, to feed another billionaires pockets 😢.

But at least you decide when, where and under which conditions you watch your media.

I can't help but notice your use of "another" rather than "an easier"

I find these easy, but I've not used the other mentioned software, so can not say whether easier or not.

Only thing with stremio is that the tv app has been crashing a lot recently-- I moved over to Nuvio (which can import stremio addons and watch history) and am very impressed with it so far!

I haven't really looked into live TV options with it, which I'm feeling more now that it's football season. I might have to check that out, thanks for the rec.
