Dull Men's Club
An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.
1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.
2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.
3. Avoid repetitive topics.
4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.
There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.
Some other communities to consider before posting:
5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.
6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.
7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

After the door batter guy post in 3Dprinting I somehow expected you to tape 2 9v batteries to the back with a resistor haha
https://lemmy.world/post/52330396
I didn't have two 9 volts. Who has 9 volt batteries anymore?
I fly high powered rockets, and the flight computers run on lipos with a backup high quality 9v battery (good quality means the sub cells are soldered and not just stacked, so they don't separate & disconnect power under Gforce loads causing a reboot of the flight computers mid flight)
As you never want a questionable 9V backup battery, we have a simple rule: new battery, voltage tested, then only ever used once for flight.. You don't risk a $3k of airframe and flight controllers etc to save $3 on a battery....
Why do I tell you this? I have a drawer full of 9V batteries with "NOT FOR FLIGHT" stickers on them that are good as new for use around the house.
Now that my smoke alarms are mains connected with a lipo backup battery designed to last 10years, I have the opposite problem:
"Who has use cases for 9v batteries around the house?!"
9v batteries are great for basic breadboard power supplies for learning.
Unsurprisingly, that is where many were used!!
Reminds me of our bin of D cells that came out of ELTs.
Do you mean these ELTs?
Yessir. The aircraft I taught flight school in used an AmeriKing ELT that ran on, I forget if it was 6 or 8 D cells. This was circa 2012, they were 121.5 ELTs, which, are those even still legal?
