How is tassymania?
I'm in west aus. I spent a few weeks in tassy. The landscape is magnificent. I saw a platypus in the wild which I felt was an achievement.
I think it has its own political vibe that I don't much understanding of. Lambie is super popular and not necessarily left nor right.
I guess Tasmanians face a different set of problems.
I'm a Greens voter just to put that out there. I am 60, retired at 40.
Tassie's full of old religious racist nutters, eg voted in Eric Abetz who is the Tassie Transport minster who was too fascist even for the Federal Libs when they kicked him out. Run by The Libs for decades.
Housing stock is mostly shitty, clapboard, thin and expensive to heat and expensive to buy.
Lambie :) (a reminder, she was voted in on Clive Palmers Party ticket and quit, so that shows her level of hypocrisy and political outlook IMO) is always setting up political networks and parties that then devolve into chaos (her Federal Lambie Party senator resigned, at the state level they all fell out and rage quit the party) her incompetence is Tassie level and is why she fits in there.
Medical care is beyond appalling,
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-09-17/17000-triple-zero-calls-told-no-ambulance-available/107163578
transport is, drive a car or fuck off, they shut nearly all the raillines in the 1970s.
state debt is ridiculous

infrastructure projects are a constant fuck up

but plenty of money for a stupid new football stadium
very little in the range of access to shopping eg no Aldi, no CostCo etc etc
Land laws are a mess, i looked at dozens of homes, 1/2 had illegal structures, some had no legal access to the property, three had pipes laid across the block to tiny dams of a few rocks in the creek from where they took water illegally... winging it is the national past time. For decades rubbish collections was, dig a hole and bury your shit, so lots of surprises when you dig to plant fruit trees and such.
other than that, pretty good :).
On a personal note, i own a house on the edge of a small rural. village on 2 hectares, neighbour's agist their cattle on my block and I get as much free beef as I want and $500 a year for that, my gf works part time 4 months a year, grows lots of her own fruit and veg , is a chef who cooks superb meals for us and we have a solar array and an ecar. We're 4 years in. Far North Qld (born there and left because too hot and humid), Northern NSW (left because of mega fires and heat) , Gold Coast (sea level rise disaster waiting to happen but a great spot between the ocean and the rainforest and we lived there car free), now Tassie
i live just down the road from one of Australia's best MTB trail networks and ride there often.
like you say what's not to love about the landscape? it can be stunning! Spring however brings a large number of really nasty storms from Antarctica. I currently spend 8 months a year in SE Asia and 4 months in Tassie and it's a bolt hole as shit gets worse.
