Did the average German Citizen know what the government was doing to the Jews? Did they care or was it pretty much a media blackout like the US is doing to supposed "illegal" immigrants? (lemmy.world)

To my knowledge the ones living near the camps did, because of the forced labor etc.

But otherwise there was a lot of willful ignorance and many Jews that were rounded up believed they would be just deported and packed accordingly.

(not a historian though)
