One Trump voter issued a tear-filled video regretting his decision to vote for the president after his brother, who served with U.S. special forces, died while in Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In a video posted to social media, Naseer Paktyawal tearfully recalled his brother's service to the country and the moment that ICE "kidnapped" him in front of his son, Imrin. ABC News initially posted the video.

...

"I saw two cars unmarked. Seven, eight people jump out of those cars," Paktyawal said. "One on the driver's side, one on the back of his car, and grabbed him from his seat and put a handcuff on him."

Mohammad Nazeer Paktyawal's son, Imrin, was also featured in the video and recalled witnessing his father's arrest. "I was standing there, and then they came and just take him," the boy said.

Imrin added that he was "standing there" as the agents hauled his father away. "I was like, just don't take him, please," Imrin recalled.

According to Paktyawal, he later received a call from an ICE facility. "I thought they were going to release him back," Imrin said.

"He said, 'Are you, Naseer?' That's me," Paktyawal said. "Your brother Mohamed Nasir Paktyawal passed away this morning and his body is laying down in a parking lot in the hospital."

...

"My first vote was for this president, and I regret it, and I'm gonna regret it for the rest of my life," he added. "Because of me, because of my voting, He got arrested, and he lost his life. And I'm never going to forgive myself for that."

CNN reported that he was taken by ICE agents outside of his Dallas apartment and died less than a day after being in ICE custody. His family said that Mohammad had no known health conditions and had been seeking asylum in the U.S. since his arrival in 2021.

Trump voters get to plea insanity at the end and get off the hook

Didn't say that. Just because you're mentally ill doesn't take you off the hook. i consider irrationally hateful and being easy to manipulate, mentally ill.

It's just a sad development of late stage capitalism (and following propaganda)...

They were in their right mind, they knew what they were voting for

but I challenge this, because who with a healthy mind, would vote against their own interests. You need to be masochist, or well, pretty stupid (I'm not talking about the obvious hateful stuff, more like all the things that Trump promises and absolutely not delivers, like improving economy and so on). There's way too many people that actually believe at least some of the bullshit he says. Well, it's a cult...

who with a healthy mind, would vote against their own interests.

Who? The majority of Republican voters that's who. What the fuck are you even on about? You're mixing up irrationality and mental illness. To suggest that a person who votes irrationality must be mentally ill is quite the bridge to cross.

Trump voters are not mentally ill. Well actually statistically there are but that's a seperate conversation. Trump voters are ignorant and irrational and they like it that way. That's what they want, they're not mentally ill, they're dumber than a rock.

My point is half of the American population is fucking mentally ill, Call it dumber than a rock, ignorant, irrational, call it Republicans, I don't care. This is not healthy mental behavior. The modern capitalistic world is just not healthy for people. Like psychosis/narcissm and general anxiety disorder (racissm... fear of necessary change, e.g. because of climate crisis), likely schizophrenia... No sane person would elect Trump, yet here we are, Trump winning the popular vote even.

That this is happening on that massive scale is concerning. That's my whole point...

While I do agree with your sentiment I still think it is less about "right mind/mentally ill" and more about uneducated/willful ignorance.

Red states use the vast majority of well fare resources in this country, but time and time again republicans vote against their self interest and slash those resources whenever possible.

Republicans are generally against universal healthcare and free college education, but a large majority of the 18 yo enlisted military come from middle of nowhere towns with no opportunities. They enlist to have a better life with government sponsored healthcare, housing, and education. Meanwhile voting against those same ideals for the general populous. They have always voted against their self interest. Usually they just do it with the idea of keeping someone else down, but they are just kicking themselves.

Edit: also thank you for the stimulating conversation this early in the morning.

I still think it is less about “right mind/mentally ill” and more about uneducated/willful ignorance.

guess we need to define what mentally ill actually is, Because in a modern world where information is abundant and you could educate yourself, being this uneducated I think is definitely not a healthy mind. But then again, what do we call the Third Reich? I think it's also uneducated and mentally ill people. In the end I think it's just juggling words... When it's the majority, I guess it can also be the new normal?

They have always voted against their self interest.

And who with a healthy mind to does that?

Anyway, I just see this development in Europe as well, like being completely sealed off to factualism. It's saddening, to see people once with a somewhat healthy mind, now electing parties like AfD in Germany, distrusting science, being hateful and so on. It's kind of a mental disease, I wonder how we can fix that realistically...
