What a misrepresentation.
Her phone was stolen. This does not teach her how to wash dishes or why it is important. This teaches her that grandpa is an asshole who can't be trusted and to never let her phone out of her sight.

She doesn't own it to begin with.
She's a teenager, it is provided through the labors of her parents. She has done nothing to "own it". And her parents continued leasing of the phone to her is contingent upon her assisting in the household. If she doesn't want to do that, then they don't have to continue paying for and providing the phone. She has no "right" to a phone.
I hope you don't have kids. It was her phone, it was stolen. Parents do not own their children or their children's possessions.
