A few years ago, after the third flat in a row on my bike I was looking into that as well and might have found the same picture next to others. As far as I remember the gist of it was: Too many downsides including too expensive for this to be feasible for everyday use cases. For bicycles you might find solid tires on some of these bikes for rent. But these are not flexibel enough for good grip in curves and are way less comfortable. So I was a little sad and continued to patch or exchange the tubes..
From what I've heard, "tubeless" tires are supposed to be more resilient: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tubeless_tire#Bicycle_tires
They're still relatively new/expensive, though.
And it's not a super simple system either. You have a scoop of rubber-y liquid in your tires at all times, which is supposed to seal the tire on the seams and in case you get a hole in it...
Yeah, that was the next rabbithole. 🙈 I‘ve watched too many videos, checked too many lists of ingredients for the magic fluid you need for these tires and talked with a bicycle colleague at work about tires in length. I‘m still riding tubeful, not tubeless.
You getting pinch flats or puncture flats?
At that time it was rather bad batch/material failure as far as I remember.
What brand? Maybe I can get free tube replacements…
I've been riding tubeless tires on my gravel bike for 6 years. Never going back to tubes.
As a daily commuter (40 km a day) i would recommend you the Schwalbe Marathon Plus. They are quite hard compared to other Casings(?), but since then i didnt have any troubles. At least for about two years. After that they reach the end of their lifespan :) Even the less protective Marathon Racer did their job. And the Green Marathon are serving me well for a year now.
I heard good things about tubeless too, but as far as I know are most tubeless liquids an evironmental disaster. The less toxic (eco-branded) ones cost a dime and arent working that well, i heard.
