I think you can do random wine comparisons from various regions, but comparing the average wine across all of America hardly seems like a fair comparison though given how much bigger America is compared to France. A better comparison would be the average wine in western Europe compared to the average American wine if we’re going off of sheer scale.

Some states have better wine producing areas than others due to the climate. The East Coast for instance doesn’t have as good of a climate for wine production as the West Coast, that’s not a flaw really but a regional difference. The wines that are produced on the East Coast aren’t bad, but even when I asked a couple sommeliers while on the East Coast they conveyed that I would find much better wines on the West Coast due to the climate.
