This is what actually happened in the episode. Trip was under the impression that this was a game or something, where players placed their hands into a dish of pebbles that did... something. What he did not understand was that this was actually a ritual that involved transmitting genetic material from one individual to another.

Stargate wasn't much better. Jack fights off a rape attempt and immediately, Dr. Fraiser explains to him how he should feel honored to have been chosen as a victim.
