If they killed your father, then they're probably going to kill someone else's loved ones.
So killing them is saving lives.
That's highly speculative, maybe your father killed their father, and you are simply perpetuating the cycle by becoming a killer yourself.
Edit: I went to look up how often murderers kill again, and at least on datapoint is this US conference proceeding stating that among almost 57 thousand cases studied only 0.82% went on to kill again.
That's why you gotta get 'em while they're still young. Close the circle.

And now you know why: prevention.
Tell that to Batman, I wouldn't mind seeing Gotham after a year of killing all the big bad guys.
Gotham is literally cursed. Nothing a Wayne does could ever fix it.
It's one of those cases where "Status Quo is God". Gotham's curse is just DC throwing up its hands and giving itself an out that its readers will have to accept if they want to keep reading Batman.
