Capitalism sold you meat. That didnโ€™t occur in a vacuum. We were eating meat before capitalism was involved.

Do you think most people today would go slaughter their own animals for food if the other option was picking up vegetables and other easy options at the store? Most people don't have the stomach or tools to kill a cow, chicken, or pig and prep it.

I think that's more a side effect of people largely not living an agrarian lifestyle anymore since folks literally did that for thousands of years. Though you often times did also just get s butcher for larger animals since they were professional and often did it in exchange for a share.

I can't legally keep my own chickens where I live, otherwise I would.

I had to put down my rabbit, I had to crush my pet spider under my heel. I sure as hell can take out a chicken that I've raised explicitly to be food, and if I can't... Well, my wife grew up on a micro farm, where they raised their own cows and chickens, she definitely can slaughter an animal and butcher a carcass.
