It is slightly sensationalized in the sense that Meta didn't run the ads, Meta allowed the ads to be run. Title implies Meta created the content, whereas Meta didn't prevent the content from being distributed. Not great, but wildly different.
That's correct, the origin of those ads are chinese nudify AI apps targeting western consumers.
Meta say ads, as are thousands (or millions) of them, are verified through automated tools, which can be deceived. It reminds me the case of Tinder fake profiles taking advantage of loophole of "just one face verified picture" (also chinese scammers).
