This is a general view on the topic. I think open-source isn't enough, we need also governance for the software we use, and create small pockets of freedom.

also it's not worth doing outside of much larger scale projects otherwise the admin work will just swamp any actual development time, imo

i'm not against better governance models, but the biggest problem in open-source right now isn't control (imo), it's unpaid labour.
