I think it's a cool idea, there is so much empty engagement for engagement's sake by a super small handful of accounts that it's basically just spam. I can't imagine someone checking out the fediverse is going to see endless feed old memes and decide this is superior to reddit in any way.
Not all of us want an endless content feed, I like slower social media with more thoughtful and respectful discussions and I like seeing developers that understand that and try to bake it in.
No idea why you are being downvoted, because you are not being rude.
I have no dog in this fight as someone who tries to contribute from time to time but is not getting rate limited out at all.
There's a contingent of threadiverse users who interpret "anti censorship" to mean "all speech should be permitted, even against other's consent" and view any stifling of that to be immoral.
My take is that if platforms permit the loudest voices to overwhelm others, you just have censorship of a different flavor. Piefed is taking an interesting approach to that problem and I think it's interesting to watch!
