Liminal spaces are the subject of an Internet aesthetic portraying empty or abandoned places that appear eerie, forlorn, and often surreal. Liminal spaces are commonly places of transition (pertaining to the concept of liminality) or of nostalgic appeal.

that one small section of guard rail really sells it
It reminds me of this house near where my parents live. Big property in a rural area. The front is mostly grass, with a trail for the owner to drive up, like a small, private dirt road. Then, for some unknown reason, there's a gate.
No, not a gate on a fence. No fence. Just a gate.
It stands there, open space on all sides, blocking off the dirt road. Meanwhile, there's absolutely nothing stopping someone from just, you know, driving on the grass to swerve around it.
It sends a clear legal message. Anyone beyond that point in a vehicle is trespassing
There's a T intersection there where the stem road is outside the frame.
oooh that would make sense
There might be a little creek running by the edge of the road there, too, or just a deep drop-off in that one spot.
It's the only thing to crash into for miles
