Its a visual thing more than anything. If they were to pause the clock at every interval I'd prefer it.
In fact there was a proposal by some people (by memory Wenger was involved) that we do so and have 2 30 min halved which is an idea I love.
The practical playing time of teams is around that point naturally.
So we pause the clock everytime the ball is out of play and continue it again once its in play, eluminates time wasting. (Momentum can still be broken, this doesnt fix that)
But when you know there will be a +3 after 90 mins you have a sense of anticipation around the 85th min mark, it becomes exciting.
With 10 mins added its just boredom. Ruined that exciting end.
