China is very strong in propaganda, focussed inwards and outwards which is the nub of this. In comparison the West is a clumsy amateur at best.

A Soviet and an American are seated next to each other on a plane traveling from Moscow to Washington DC.

The American says, I have to hand it to you, your propaganda is very impressive. The Soviet smiles and thanks him but replies that it’s nothing compared to American propaganda. Confused, the American tells him, “but we don’t have any propaganda.”

The Soviet smiles and says “exactly”

I mean they rode the Trump thing to the hilt and picked that fight with Japan over Taiwan, so clearly it's not just propaganda. Getting into a trade war with China while trying to diversify from US trade is just a bad idea all around.

Yep, but nothing is just propaganda or what would be the point, the assumed superiority was likely partly cut from that cloth because it is difficult to predict how the interaction of complex systems will winnow out.

When I typed winnow gboard changed it to Winnie, I think the ban in China has perversely cemented that link. Strange really, Winnie the Pooh is highly regarded and loved in England.

Winnie the Pooh is not banned in China, nice example for people falling for incredibly stupid propaganda.
