It's a blowback action instead of gas like an AK. I think it's just a guide rod on top, maybe it also adds weight since blowback guns need a heavier reciprocating mass.

Yeah, on a lot of these blowback AKs they just don't finish milling the gas piston and carrier and use it as mass
