Parent gives child video game and admits they do not supervise the child playing the video game. The child finds a safer space for questions and expression within that video game than within the relationship with their parent. I read this as a “person with a child” more than a “parent”. Sounds like they don’t have a good relationship with their own kid, and then blames a video game for how their kid is turning out.
And as so often with your proposed helicopter parenting, the child is better off for it.
Ehh there is a balance to be had. Parents should know roughly what their children are doing on the internet.
If only there was someone who could tell them roughly what their child is doing on the internet...
Some person who is always in the room the child is in, some person always looking at the things the child is looking at, some person capable of giving a summary of what the child saw and experienced...
Might you know what person that could be?
The child, clearly. Parental guidance on the internet should change as children age. Internet usage for a 7 year old should look different from a 17 year old.
