Congratulations, you "built an app". I mean I get what you're saying and sort of agree, somewhat depending on his skill level. Like if this was hard for him to build that is cooler than if he was just showing off or something. Because yeah, communication is a solved problem. I once built an app that made a webpage that was sort of a coder/decoder for our messages so my then-girlfriend and I had a "secret language". To me the appeal of that is that it was novel/silly/weird and it was unique to us. Which I guess is sorta like this app.. but I dunno, this one also seems a little prone to abuse and one dimensional.
Eh, I agree and disagree. I don't use my phone extensively, and rarely have it on me if I'm at home, because I don't want to be reachable by anyone with my phone number/email address at all hours of every day. I like having the excuse of "Oops, I didn't have my phone on me.", " Sorry, my phone died", etc etc. However, I still want my wife to be able to get ahold of me when she needs to, so what she'll do is blink the lights through home assistant to get my attention. I didn't "make an app" or anything like that, but giving your loved one a special way to contact you that only they have is something nice and thoughtful
When you put it like that, how can I disagree? I cannot really put my finger on why the description in the post feels a little lamer than most ideas like this would be, but it does somehow.
