These days I only ever "apply" for jobs if I have a friend who already works there who I can give my resume to hand to their HR person directly along with their personal recommendation, or if I'm headhunted by a recruiter. It's worked out well for me. The only times I ever got a job by just applying for it online were when I applying for jobs that nobody wanted to do.
