I can not remember the story, but it was from the 1920s or 1930s and I was astonished at just how close to reality it predicted a lot of stuff. Like cell phones and personal computers, as well as getting very close to how they have affected society.
Keep wanting to say it was by Ray Bradbury, but it was at least 10 years prior to his first published work. Might have been Lovecraft, actually... That's the only author I definitely remember reading a lot of from around that time period. ๐ค
Murray Leinster's A Logic Named Joe, maybe? That was a little later than you said, 40s
