It makes finding the biggest diskspace hogs trivial, whether it's a massive file sitting deep in the directory tree or a directory full of other directories that each have 500 3MB files that all add up to 100GB, or 3 installers' temporary files that they never cleaned up, though you'll only notice them if they take up a lot of space.
