MODERATORS
I think this is unnecessarily inflammatory focusing on the Steamdeck. Did Valve increase price out of nowhere? I am guessing not. Did they on purpose delay their Steam machine launch date? Again, I guess not.
We all know the elephant in the room for this, which will also cause pretty much all PC hardware prices to go up. By the time that happens the Steam deck will probably be again a good deal, since just everything goes up in price right now.
Edit: since the article compares this to current price of the Asus ROG Ally, mark my words, in the next 6 months they will also have to increase their price.
Edit2 later: everyone has seen the news that the Steamdeck sold out again even for that price? If it weren't a useful device for that price, it wouldn't sell that well.
Yeah I kinda got the same vibe
Some truth?
Given Valve's plan is to aggressively price their hardware to gain market share in the living room, they're not gonna bump the prices unless they're forced to; not out of altruism, just because it would fuck up their plans.
Not really quite the level of journalism I expect from RPS tbh
Laptop prices have increased over the past 6 months and total sales are down. The entire hardware market is having trouble. But I guess “price increase hur-dur 😡” just gets clicks nowadays
Also, even at the same price point the steam deck would win because of its build quality, repairability and software support.
And inflammatory articles on news tend to do make the rounds on here. This has become a cesspool of outrage and hatred of that which is evil, but sometimes to a greater extent then justified and with false statements to make the evil look and sounds even more evil.
