It should be a sign that no-one takes pride in menial (or perhaps manual labour) jobs simply because it is no longer a career route.

I did some temp work setting up a solar farm in England, hauling heavy panels up onto the frames. They offered me 'toolshed' duty because they thought I was too clever for the job (or was I young and obnoxious lol). I nevertheless refused. I liked being out on the fields and the fitness gained from it.

Point is, there is a comraderie when you are alongside people and know that they're just as funny, warm and witty as you.
