News coverage is an ongoing regular thing: https://news.google.com/search?for=us+strategic+oil+reserve&hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3Aen

Its mostly oil industry media covering it normally but whenever there's significant activity you will see more traditional media sources reporting on it. Its generally just the business/investor types who care and pay attention to it so news media targeting them is usually where you find coverage beyond the oil industry specific sources. If you read The Economist for example, anything significant with the oil reserve will be in there.
