YouTube had a bug that was eating over 7 gigabytes of RAM from a single video tab, and Google stayed silent while Mozilla developers did the investigation for them. Here’s what broke, why it made it to production, and what you can do if it’s still affecting you.

The short version: YouTube’s Like/Share/Save button row got trapped in an endless layout loop, forcing your browser to recalculate page geometry thousands of times per second. It hit Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, basically every browser. The workaround that worked: a uBlock Origin filter targeting youtube.com/##menu.

But the technical breakdown is only part of the story. When Firefox developers are investigating a Google product bug because Google is quiet, that tells you something about whose problem this really was.
