What do you mean myth? They definitely wake you up.

Or has some other benefit been attributed to them?

It's a myth because hot shower wakes you up just as good. Just today I blasted myself with hot shower after rough sleep and I got that "wow" feeling in how quickly I seemingly opened my eyes and felt fine

Idk, too enjoyable for me. I need it to be uncomfortable to get the waking up effect. But then I like and can afford slow mornings so I don't actually need to wake up quickly. Except

Warm showers work well at night because the heat evaporates quick, which cools your body down faster, helping to set your body up for sleep
