plot twist: 君 (kimi - you) is a informal form used by men towards close women, like girlfriend/family/close friend (AFAIK, i'm learning Japanese obviously) and 僕 (boku - me) is rather casual too (used by men)

Duolingo always liked to sprinkle in some more edgy/weird sentences - exactly so people would post them to online platforms. Same with the icon changing to something weird once in a while. It's an effective marketing tactic.

But it could also work for you remembering important words and constructions. I still remember that Sådan en fisk drikker ikke øl (such a fish doesn't drink beer). "Interesting" means "easy to remember", so I wouldn't put it all on attempts to promote the app. But of course they do a lot of advertisement, hidden or not.
