❗️Global pressure secures the release of activists Saif Abu Keshek and Thiago Avila following abduction from Gaza flotilla
Legal teams have confirmed that Saif Abu Keshek and Thiago Avila are set to be released from Israeli custody today. The two activists were abducted by Israeli forces in international waters on 30 April while participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla, a mission aimed at delivering humanitarian aid and breaking the long-standing Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip.
Following their seizure, they were unlawfully transferred and imprisoned, where they reportedly faced severe mistreatment—including prolonged isolation, physical abuse, and threats—prompting both men to launch a hunger strike in protest of their arbitrary detention.
The release follows intense international pressure from the United Nations, as well as the Spanish and Brazilian governments, who condemned the interception as an act of "abduction" in violation of international law. According to the legal rights group Adalah, Abu Keshek and Avila will be transferred to immigration authorities for immediate deportation proceedings.
