I'm too European to understand, I get that it's a Trumpism but what has he done this time

[–] tburkhol@slrpnk.net 82 points 1 week ago (4 children)

This is the Lincoln Reflecting Pool in Washington DC, a treasured landmark seen in many iconic images and films. The mad king had it drained so that the bottom could be painted blue, adding an over-saturated "ocean" color.

So we are not talking how to dethrone a pedophile loser put in power by racist trash manipulated by oligarchs.

[–] Dead_or_Alive@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

To distract from his child rape in the Epstein files and enrich his fellow oligarchs at the public’s expense.

gestures in an exasperated manner at our surroundings

[–] makyo@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago

Emphasis on 'mad king'

It does get refurbished every so often. That's his excuse for making it tacky, the way he prefers things.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

he likes anything gold, even if the gold is just a foil on a crappy surface.

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 1 points 1 week ago

This is true, but think of things on a large (soon to be bankrupt) casino scale. That's where we get this pool from.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago

he has pedophelia constantly nagging at his periphery, he needs constant media distractions.

[–] tehn00bi@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Wait? What? I haven’t seen this in the news. It’s very stupid.

[–] smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 week ago

I thought it was a parking lot, and was very confused.

He already is king in everything but title...

  • Stands above the law.
  • Makes his own laws.
  • Nullifies laws that don't suit him.
  • Takes "gifts" for favors (political and personal).
  • Pardons whomever he pleases.
  • Has his friends and family ingrained in government.
  • Holds a court of sycophants.
  • Plans to stay in power indefinitely.
  • Meddles with election results.
  • Tells the people his appointment is an act of God.
  • Will choose/appoint his successor upon his death.
  • Denies words of the leader of the Catholic church, as if he stands above them.
  • Renames landmarks and architecture after himself.
  • Refuses to be (de-?)elected out of office.
  • Has his own armed forces outside of a standing army.

Even the British King only scores 10/15 on that list. Maybe Trump wants to be an Ayatollah instead of a King.

Out of that list I'd say 2 apply (but they're really the same thing), 4 are maybes, and 9 don't apply to King Charles. He has very little real power. Influence, maybe, but the royals have a policy of never speaking on political topics.

You haven't got a king in the US. You've got a dictator.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 12 points 1 week ago

As long as he stays in that office, he's immune to prosecution or litigation of any kind. That's kingly enough.

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 30 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Just so you know, that's not concrete they are painting, it's slabs of granite.

Fucking fools.

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's probably not even waterproof paint

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

That costs extra

[–] Lyrl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

I think this one is concrete, so at least it's potentially fixable or replaceable. The "dingy gray" granite building Trump has directed be painted white is, so far, protected by more bureaucracy. If he pushes that through, the damage will be irreversible.

[–] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's the reflecting pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial.

[–] Duranie@leminal.space 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Which apparently benefits from having a dark bottom to aid in the mirror effect, you know, to reflect. The blue bottom is going to reduce the quality of the reflection.

These are just never ending insults to injury.

[–] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

No you don't get it, pools have blue vinyl. All the best pools have blue vinyl, anyway. I know pool experts - the best experts, and they say it's gotta be blue.
