On the morning of Friday, May 8th, while the US Navy was attempting to move its three attacking destroyers with air support from the Strait of Hormuz towards the Sea of Oman, the Iranian Navy launched a joint attack using missiles and drones, employing 8 cruise missiles and 24 suicide drones. As a result of this operation, and despite the US Navy's vigorous efforts to repel the attack, one cruise missile and three suicide drones successfully hit the US destroyers, causing a fire. It should be noted that this operation was named after the famous commander of the Jamaran destroyer of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Captain "Amir Behzad Majd", i.e., the Operation Martyr Majd.
