First of all, the US can't reliably take down entire volleys of missiles and drones, even if our fancy anti missiles were not running out, that they cost millions each is here nor there. Second, the insurance companies for these big ships will cut their policies if they took the US up on this offer.
It's either a dumbass order by the president, and or a short term attempt to assuage the oil markets lower.
