Any comrades out there dealing with autism & OCD burnout? Mine has gradually been getting worse and worse over the years as adult life gets more and more complicated.

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It be me. Though I quit my job now so the burnout is less prevalent but I have had different stages of mental health problems over the past few years. It sucks ass.

My job is actually the least problematic, it's everything else in life, existing truly is exhausting. Like day to day chores, hobbies just become huge stressors.

[–] Sherad@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Is this a thing for autism? I feel the exact same way, like chores and hobbies, even if I claim to like them, seem completely impossible to engage with sometimes. I guess that's executive dysfunction or something...

[–] znsh@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It is, mostly happens when the brain overloads or your routine gets disrupted or your needs aren't met. Most people could go longer or not even mind that much, but autistic people are most triggered by such things.

I see. I appreciate the response, still figuring out if I'm just adhd or autistic or both so I take lived wisdom where I can get it 😅

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

that's more like ADHD

but Autistics generally do have ADHD

[–] Sherad@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I am diagnosed adhd so that fits I suppose.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Were you diagnosed as Autistic too?

[–] Sherad@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

No, it's just something I'm recently realizing may be applicable based on my own experiences and observations, alongside scoring pretty high on the RAADS-R self-test. Planning on talking to my doc about it soon

I got a psych eval a few years ago and it was clear as day.

But also: many therapists and psychiatrists said beforehand.

I always knew too.

Not sure what you mean by burnout, but I certainly have both (and I do struggle with it sometimes).

[–] znsh@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Burnout as in being overwhelmed by the amount of things in your life causing you to crashout until you have some mental space or physical space to recover.

[–] LeninZedong@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 weeks ago

Oof, I think I get something like that sometimes. I really ought to get my own personal space because staying where I am is just a guarantee that I will be annoyed constantly.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Can you have Autism and OCD at the same time?

I've heard people express doubt about such but I'm pretty sure I have both Autism and OCD.

[–] LeninZedong@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I am pretty sure you can because I am pretty sure I have both.

I also have other mental illnesses and or or disorders, but I would rather not get into them here.

honestly news to me because one of my last therapists said that I didn't have it

but that's probably because she hasn't heard of "Pure O" OCD
