Abukeshek and Ávila have not yet been charged, but the human rights organization Adalah told Al Jazeera that the two are accused of “being members of a terrorist organization” and “having contact with foreign agents.” The human rights organization calls the legal proceedings illegal. According to them, there is no legal basis for convicting foreign nationals for acts or offenses that took place in international waters.

Abuse
Adalah also reports that Abukeshek and Ávila are being mistreated by Israel. Among other things, they were reportedly blindfolded and held in solitary confinement; Ávila was allegedly beaten so severely on two occasions that he lost consciousness.

The Dutchman Osman had previously stated that he was also mistreated when the Israeli army boarded the ships on Thursday. He sustained bruised ribs and injuries to his nose during that incident.
