Do you know if they contribute back in some way to immich ? Or do they use their code and just monetize it ?

They write this on their "About us"

Open source

We don't just use open source โ€” we contribute to it. We report bugs, provide feedback and think along about the direction of projects like Immich. Open source is a principle for us, not a marketing term.

Hmm... if they ever make a business out of it, I hope they put people to actually contribute code or money.

Yeah, companies that earn money should contribute to the open source projects that they are using. Especially in cases like this where the product would be completely different without this open source.
