In order of notoriety/importance for me these are the straits I was aware of:

  1. Gibraltar
  2. Hormuz
  3. Malacca

I wasn't aware of the name of the Strait of Yemen (aka Bab-el-Mandeb) before this war though...

But you were at least aware of that geographical feature, right?

If you're looking at the world map, it's kind of hard to ignore the shape of the Arabian peninsula and bodies of water flanking it.

I do.

Because about three days before the blockade started, the Dutch government ensured us there was plenty of gas in storage for the year. And I quote "well, it'll get iffy if there's a sudden blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, but we should be fine normally"
