Why the hell did Russia bring those ships there? They had to retreat over a year ago because they knew it wasnt safe. Such an idiotic loss. Its amazing of course, but wow.

They are used for launching certain types of missiles that cannot be launched in any other manner. Also, unless they are small enough to fit in the canal network, they'd have to pass through Istanbul, and that route is currently blocked from warships.
